Marketing plan for your website

February 10th, 2008 Posted in eCommerce News

Do you know what a blueprint is?  A blueprint is a design.  Architectures create blueprints for your house before they lay the first stone for it.  Blueprints are like maps.  You use blueprints to visualize the finish product, like your house.  You use maps to know where you are going.  Blueprints, maps, and marketing plans have the same purpose.  To plan the direction you need to take.

For an ecommerce entrepreneur, you will need a marketing plan for your website.  In another example, have you seen the blueprint for your store?  Remember that your website is your store and therefore you need to plan what is going to happen to your store or storefront.

Now, let us move on to the marketing plan for your business, what are the things you need?

Things you need for the marketing plan of your website

•    Know what you want to do with your website.  Do not answer it by sell products, because this is very vague and you can do it offline in a limited manner.  Some things business owners put here is –
o    Service existing clients
o    Find new clients
o    Sell products to international clients
o    Provide support to staff and customers
•    Research your market or niche.  Know where the industry you are in is going.  Think of how you can fit your business to fill gaps in the industry that you are in.  You will need to offer something to the industry that others including your competitor do not offer.
•    Know your customers and how you can best serve them.  Know their profiles to learn their wants and needs, including the price range of products they purchase.
•    Know your competitor, how they position their products, what are the pricing for their products, where do they find clients and what gaps you can fill that your competitor do not have.
•    Know your USP or unique selling proposition.  How is your product different from others in the market, does it have a different technological makeup, pricing, customer service or find whatever is unique in your product.  You may also try to look at other angles on how you will position your product or service.
•    Do you offer promotions and what promotions you can do to ensure you meet the goal that you want to do with your website.
•    You may also think of how much you are willing to spend for your website design and hosting.

There are other considerations you may think of but the above list may give you a better picture of where you want to go.  This is your marketing plan, but you can change it in a manner that will fit your business.

Again, your research of competitor websites and other websites will help you understand what benefits your website will have in the World Wide Web.
